consgen: protein CONSensus GENeration |
The motivation behind consgen was for understanding residue conservation between functionally equivalent proteins. Conservation of residues applies to both geometric location and amino acid similarity. The program consgen takes multiple protein structures in PDB format and aligns them using a modified partial Procrustes method that aims to maximize residue similarity. The alignment procedure is geared towards generating a consensus structure, one that demonstrates residue conservation between a group of proteins.
